Our Story

Twenty-some years ago, a very typical summer monsoon storm descended upon Tucson. By sheer luck, Bill photographed a single, contorted, full daytime lightning bolt on a handheld Olympus A1 clamshell camera. By all rights, the image should never have been captured. It was one of those tiny events in life that ultimately end up changing everything.

That one lucky exposure led to a burning desire to repeat the success. A steady stream of failures led to an intense study of our local weather. The studies led to a few successful lightning images. The humble successes led to a photographic addiction. Striking Images was born.

A couple of decades have elapsed and we have slowly evolved into X-File like, spooky eccentrics that can look up into storms and generally just know where the bolts will be. To non-chasers, the experience is, well, spooky. To those of you who have devoted your vacation dollars and hours to pursuing lightning and "bad"(I use the term loosely) weather, you know what I mean.

This site is the ever-growing expression of our addiction. Please take a few minutes and look through our lightning galleries. You will be treated to some of our best storm images captured over the past twenty years. We are also particularly pleased with our new selection of lightning screen savers. They feature the best-of-the-best at less than $1 apiece. In addition to lightning, you will also find a sampling of the 80,000 images we currently stock. That one lucky image, photographed so long ago, has led to a professional photo agency manned by three generations of storm chasers. Our clients are a worldwide collection of corporations, publications and individuals with a passion for weather. We would like to include you in that list.
